The decision to upload the game here at itch.io was taken when the game was removed from the playstore, it was removed from the playstore because the ads content were not compliant with the minimum age for the game, once the problem was solved the game got restored there.

This situation made me realize something, Dimension M is a great game for playing in a desktop, in fact, I think that it is even more fun in its desktop version, the game works more naturally I think, the controls are easier too.

I haven’t realized that because since the beginning I had in mind: “This is a mobile game, it’s too simple to be a desktop game”, so I went blind with that in mind.

Thanks to itch.io I have a place to post the game, so I must be grateful for this platform.

But anyway, the game was developed with LibGDX and it has always had a desktop version, but it was incomplete, only with dumb implementations of the game interfaces for ads, database, leaderboards, etc. So now I had to implement those properly.

So apart from adding some icons, changing the database file location and adapting some screens with a “go back” button I had one major implementation to do:

Leaderboards: Leaderboards in the android version use the google play leaderboards service, so players can compete with each other, in the desktop version I have decided to use something local, this is for two reasons:

1 - I was in a hurry to upload the game.

2 - To use the leaderboards from google play I’d have to implement a Desktop client to access the google play services, and that would take a lot of time.

3 - It’ll allow some nice challenges between people living in the same house, brothers, friends, etc. It can be really fun!

The game use a record system similar to the ones from the classic games, whenever you make a new record, you can save it with your name, I think this brings some good feelings from the old school games to the player.

So the desktop version of the game have a new screen, it appears after the game statistics whenever you make a new record for a map.
